Buddhist Center Vyhlidky – Place of Accomplishment, a place for a Stupa.
A Karma Kagyu lineage, Diamond Way Buddhist retreat center,
under the spiritual guidance of HH the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Thaye Dorje, and Lama Ole Nydahl.
Vyhlidky retreat centre was founded on the basis of inspiration from Buddhist teachers Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah. In 1999, a group of Lama Ole’s students from Ceske Budejovice found and bought property in the nearby village of Vyhlidky. The Buddhist Culture Society, a civic association established to support this project, continues its activity at the retreat center. The location itself provides the ideal conditions for human development through maintaining the Buddhist teachings and meditation practices of the Karma Kagyu lineage; so Lama Ole gave Vyhlidky center the Dharma name Karma Döndrub Ling – Place of Accomplishment.
Place
The former farm buildings and neighbouring land received a new appearance from the beginning, and have been altered for its new purpose since then. The rear building was renovated to provide a large meditation room and a social space, and the building modifications are ongoing. Several residents are running the retreat center, and many people come for meditation, teachings, and to see the place itself.
Meditation
Everyone who comes here gets the opportunity to meet Buddha‘s teachings and meditation methods in accordance with the Karrna Kagyu tradition. Our experienced local practitioners can explain the meditations and we have frequent visits by international Diamond Way ‘travel teachers’. Meditation courses, public lectures and every day meditations, for Buddhists, beginners and all interested people, are done on a regular basis. Our purpose-built meditation room has the capacity for 108+ people!
Art Workshops
To maintain the depth of the cultural heritage of the Karma Kagu tradition, which may otherwise fade away, an artist’s studio was established. It arose out of the desire for supporting artistic activity, and to preserve the Buddhist art of middle Asia. In our workshop space we host courses by renowned masters: in fields such as statue making, statue filling, and scroll painting (Tib. Thangka), acquainting people with unique Buddhist iconography.
